Ofloxacin 0.2% w/v Infusion I.P: Ofloxacin is employed to treat bacterial infections, such as pneumonia, gonorrhoea (sexually transmitted infection), typhoid fever, infectious diarrhoea, and skin, eye/ear, bone, joint, abdominal, and prostate gland (male reproductive gland) infections. A bacterial infection is a medical condition in which bacteria proliferate in the body and lead to infection. It may affect any part of the body and many parts at a very rapid rate.
Ofloxacin is an antibacterial present in it that is used to treat and prevent various types of bacterial infections. It is bactericidal and acts by destroying the bacteria responsible for infection. It is used to prevent the repair of bacterial cells and destroy the bacteria, thus stopping the spread of the infection. Ofloxacin is a broad-spectrum antibiotic against the majority of Gram-negative bacteria, several Gram-positive bacteria, and a few anaerobic bacteria (which exist in the absence of oxygen).
Medical Benefits:
- Ofloxacin aids in the treatment and prevention of a myriad of bacterial infections produced by most Gram-negative bacteria, numerous Gram-positive bacteria, and some anaerobic bacteria.
- It is bactericidal in action and kills off bacteria responsible for infections by stopping the production of the cell wall necessary for survival. It also blocks the repair of bacterial cells and kills the bacteria.
- Ofloxacin possesses the benefit of good penetration in the majority of deep tissues and body fluids and is also apt for the treatment of deep tissue and bone bacterial infections.
Applications:
- Ofloxacin is usually used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and skin infections.
- Ofloxacin may be employed to treat sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea and chlamydia effectively.
