Rifaximin 200mg tablets are a gut-acting antibiotic used to treat travellers’ diarrhoea and other bacterial problems of the intestine. Novalab Healthcare offers this medicine under the brand name Retragut-200, in a moisture-proof 10×10 Alu-Alu pack, for PCD pharma franchise with monopoly rights and for third-party manufacturing across India.

Rifaximin 200mg is a prescription antibiotic that works almost entirely inside the gut. Most antibiotics get absorbed into the blood and travel through the whole body. Rifaximin is different: less than 1% of it is absorbed, so it stays in the intestine, right where the harmful bacteria are.
That’s what makes it useful for gut infections. It clears the bacteria causing the problem while causing far fewer body-wide side effects than regular antibiotics. It’s best known as a treatment for travellers’ diarrhoea, and doctors also use it for several other bowel and liver-related conditions.
Novalab Healthcare markets Rifaximin 200mg under the brand name Retragut-200. It is manufactured in WHO certified units and is available for PCD pharma franchise and third-party manufacturing.

The main use of Rifaximin 200mg is:
Doctors also prescribe rifaximin, often at different doses and for longer periods, for:
Rifaximin is not meant for diarrhoea that comes with fever or blood in the stool. Those infections are usually caused by bacteria that go deeper into the gut wall, and rifaximin doesn’t work well against them.
Rifaximin belongs to the rifamycin group of antibiotics. It blocks an enzyme that bacteria need to make their proteins, so they stop growing and die off.
Because the tablet is barely absorbed, almost all of the medicine stays inside the intestine. It acts directly on the bacteria in the gut, and very little of it reaches the rest of the body. This is why it’s often called a “gut-selective” antibiotic.
Rifaximin should be taken only as prescribed by a doctor. For travellers’ diarrhoea in adults and children over 12, the usual dose is:
For IBS, SIBO and liver conditions, the dose and length of treatment are different and are decided by the doctor.
If the diarrhoea gets worse, lasts more than 48 hours, or comes with fever or blood in the stool, stop the medicine and see a doctor. Keep drinking plenty of fluids or ORS during the illness.
Most people take rifaximin without any trouble. Common side effects include:
Rare but serious: severe or watery diarrhoea that continues after the course is over, skin rash, itching, or swelling of the face, lips or throat. If any of these happen, stop the medicine and see a doctor right away.
Rifaximin is not suitable for:
Store below 30°C in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Keep the tablets in their Alu-Alu strip until use, and keep out of reach of children.
Gastro products are some of the fastest-moving items in any PCD portfolio, and rifaximin has a place in both quick-turnover and long-term prescriptions.
Diarrhoea cases rise sharply every summer and monsoon, when contaminated food and water are common. That’s when physicians and chemists go through rifaximin quickly. Outside those months, demand stays steady because gastroenterologists and hepatologists prescribe it for IBS, SIBO and liver patients, many of whom take it for weeks at a time. So you get a seasonal boost on top of a year-round base.
The strongest prescribers are gastroenterologists, hepatologists, general physicians and nursing homes. Areas with tourist traffic, such as hill stations and pilgrimage towns, also see more travellers’ diarrhoea. Since rifaximin is an antibiotic, it fits naturally into an antibiotic range too. Our page on antibiotics PCD pharma franchise covers that side of the business.
A doctor treating diarrhoea or stomach trouble rarely writes just one medicine. These Novalab products are commonly prescribed alongside or in place of rifaximin:
